Alesis Debut Electronic Drum Kit

Overview by GAK

The Alesis Debut Electronic Drum Kit has everything you need to start drumming! It’s suitable for kids age 5-11 years and includes a drum stool, drum sticks, headphones, and of course the kit itself.

An electronic drum kit is a great alternative to an acoustic drum kit, as you are able to play with far less volume. An electronic drum kit is specifically designed to not disturb the neighbours and can be used with headphones, meaning your budding drummer will feel like they are sat at a traditional acoustic drum kit, whilst you can watch the tv in peace.

What makes the Alesis Debut a great option, is that it has been specifically designed for young children, so they’ll actually be able to reach the different drums and start playing from a younger age, instead of waiting to be “big enough” to play!

The Alesis Debut features the drum configuration as a traditional acoustic drum kit, meaning that you child can get used to how an acoustic is laid out and not be confused when finally sitting at a full-sized drum kit. There is a snare pad, x3 tom pads, a hi-hat cymbal pad, a crash cymbal pad, a ride cymbal pad and pedals for the kick drum and hi-hat stand, so you are able to learn all the necessary techniques to play drums. All of these are fixed to a super sturdy drum rack, so the kit is easily setup/moveable.

The Alesis Debut features mesh-heads on the electronic drum pads, which makes the playing surface more similar to the texture and feel of hitting an acoustic drum. Mesh heads are also quieter to hit than rubber pads, which can feature on some electronic drum kits. Mesh is found on some of the most expensive and advanced electronic drum kits on the market, like the Alesis Strike Pro, so the Alesis Debut is a fantastic option to begin your journey as a drummer. Combined with the option to use headphones, the Alesis Debut may just be one of the quietest around.

The 3 cymbals pads have a large 10-inch playing surface, making it easier to play and more “acoustic-like”. The foot pedals that control the hi-hat and kick pedal can be rolled up when not in use to save space, and with the kit weighing just 0.5kg, it’s easy to move around. However, while it’s lightweight, it has a sturdy metal mounting rack so you don’t need to worry about losing yourself in the music.

The Alesis Debut is powered by the Alesis DM-Lite Drum Module, which is the brain behind the kit. A drum module is what makes the pads of an electric drum kit sound like an acoustic one. The DM-Lite drum module has 10 classic and modern drum kit presets, which are made up from the 120 individual drum sounds, that are built-in to the sound module. The DM-Lite uses a technology called Intelligent Dynamic Articulation, which makes the Debut sound as realistic as possible.

The Alesis Debut can be used with headphones, as the kit itself doesn’t have an inbuilt speaker. You can also connect to an Alesis Drum Monitor (sold separately) with the use of a mini jack cable too, if you want to play out loud/jam along with other musicians.

The Alesis Debut can act as your child’s very own Drum Tutor as there is an integrated drum coach feature, which has different rhythmic exercises to learn, which are perfect for beginners to use to help them develop and progress as a drummer. The Debut also has 30 inbuilt backing tracks for you to play along with and even has an aux input, allowing you to connect your Smart Device so you can play along to your favourite songs - just plug in your phone or tablet using the aux input.

If this isn’t enough for you to start playing drums, Alesis have partnered with Melodics to give 60 free lessons to use on PC or tablet. The app helps you with your timing, gives you improvements to work on, and makes it easier for beginner drummers to immediately improve their skills with focused learning.

Each one of the (3) included cymbals boasts a large 10-inch playing surface so you never miss a beat. The kick drum and hi-hat are controlled by responsive foot pedals that can be rolled up and put away while not in use and the adjustable drum throne and headphones provide comfort for players of all ages. At the heart of the Debut Kit is the feature-packed sound module. The included sound module features 10 classic and modern sounding drum kit presets, custom designed by Alesis. These kits contain 120 individual drum sounds and utilise Intelligent Dynamic Articulation™ technology to provide incredibly realistic sound and playability. The sound module can be connected to an external sound system or amplifier such as the Alesis Strike Amp 8 (sold separately) using stereo ¼-inch outputs, or you can plug in your headphones for truly quiet and private practice. The Debut Kit’s sound module also features an integrated drum coach, including 30 play-along tracks, as well as specially designed rhythmic exercises to help build and improve your skills. Plus, there is an ⅛-inch aux input that enables you to jam out to your favourite tunes from your phone or tablet.
