CARFAX — Your Vehicle History Expert

Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you, but that's not the case when buying a used car. As an independent vehicle history provider, at CARFAX we've made it our mission to tell you everything you need to know by uncovering as many events as possible from the previous life of a used car. Our primary goal is to help you get to know your next car from the inside out before deciding to make an investment that will be part of you and your family's everyday life. We believe your next car shouldn't be hiding anything from you.

CARFAX Vehicle History Reports contain over 28 billion historical records from 20 European countries, the US and Canada, which are updated daily with new information.

Even if you live in a country we don't collect vehicle data from, it's still always worth checking the Vehicle Identification Number without obligation. The used car import and export market is booming and many owners would be surprised to find out exactly what happened to their vehicle during its previous life abroad.

Privacy for Customers — Transparency over Vehicles

Let's be clear: Although we strive to find every detail of a vehicle's life so far, we are focused only on the vehicle's history, and do not collect any information on previous owners. The information we provide relates solely to the vehicle, its odometer reading, any accidents that have been covered up, where the vehicle comes from and much more — it never gets personal. We've uncovered irreparable damage several times in the past, but other times our vehicle history checks draw a blank — and sometimes that's actually a good thing.

Second Hand — Not Second Best

Did you know that considerably more used cars are sold than new cars? We think this second-hand system is nothing short of fantastic. However, it goes without saying that it gives rise to different methods and tactics: Some sellers will disguise a car that's been in an accident under a fresh coat of paint, tamper with the odometer or conceal theft. This is one of the less appealing aspects of buying second hand. Our goal is to establish trusting relationships between buyers and sellers, since this is the best way to help customers make the right decision. Your new car should be reliable and make you feel safe, as well as make you feel like you haven't paid too much.

But more than anything else, we don't want you or your family unknowingly sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that isn't 100% safe. This is why we strive to take these vehicles off the road, which not only makes the used car market safer but our streets safer too.

CARFAX — 35+ Years of Experience in Vehicle Histories

CARFAX was founded in the US in 1984 and expanded into Europe in 2007. Around 100 team members spread across six European offices process vehicle information from 22 countries.

Fostering strategic partnerships with registration authorities, law enforcement agencies, government departments, insurance companies, inspection centers and numerous other leading companies around the world has enabled us to compile a unique international database for vehicle histories. We use this database to help make the used car market more transparent. We give everyone in the process of buying a used car access to what is currently the world's most comprehensive source for vehicle history reports, and is growing day by day.

We remain neutral and independent despite our partnerships — our sole purpose is help customers make an informed choice and ensure their safety and the safety of their family. This includes never collecting any personal details — we do not accept any PII from data sources amongst the information we provide about a vehicle. We ensure that data protection laws are observed at all times. Furthermore, we always collect our data in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks — in all the countries in which we are active. We expressly distance ourselves from illegal activities such as data theft, scraping and hacking.

Cadillac XT5 Expert Review

Michael Cantu

New for 2018

Cadillac adds more features for the 2018 XT5 including a rearview camera mirror (the rearview mirror has an option to switch to a digital display that shows what's behind the vehicle, if cargo or rear-seat passengers block visibility), automatic heated steering wheel, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, front and rear seat USB ports, and Cadillac's latest generation of the CUE infotainment system.

Vehicle Summary

The midsize XT5 is currently Cadillac's smallest crossover, positioned below the full-size Escalade. Factoring in sedans, the XT5 has a higher starting price than the ATS but starts lower than the CTS sedan.

Overvie

Powering the 2018 Cadillac XT5 is a 310-hp, 271-lb-ft of torque 3.6-liter V-6 paired to an eight-speed automatic. The engine sends power to the front wheels (EPA-rated 19/26 mpg city/highway) or to an all-wheel drive system (18/25 mpg). The Cadillac XT5 FWD hit 60 mph in quick 6.4 seconds (6.5 with AWD) and stopped from 60 mph in a somewhat lengthy 128 feet (but the AWD model stopped in a much shorter 111 feet). The crossover's towing capacity is 3,500 pounds.

The 2018 Cadillac XT5 comes well equipped with 18-inch wheels, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power liftgate, Okapi deco wood trim, eight-way driver and six-way passenger powered seats, the CUE infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, an eight-speaker Bose premium audio system, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and OnStar with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity. The top Platinum model adds AWD as standard, a reconfigurable 8.0-inch gauge cluster, semi-aniline leather seats, leather-wrapped instrument panel and door trim, microsuede headliner, a head-up display, hands-free liftgate, rear camera mirror, tri-zone climate control, heated rear seats, a multi-camera visibility system, Unique Platinum grille, and 20-inch polished wheels.

Safety

The Cadillac XT5 is considered a 2017 Top Safety Pick from the IIHS for receiving the highest rating of Good in all five crash test evaluations and the highest rating of Superior for front crash prevention for properly warning the driver of a possible accident, avoiding a 12 mph collision, and reducing the speed of a 25 mph collision by 24 mph thanks to the optional Front Automatic Braking driver assist safety feature found in the Driver Assist package. With only the optional Low-Speed Automatic braking equipped (found in the Luxury Driver Awareness package or standard on the Premium Luxury model), the second highest score of Advanced was issued because the crossover was only able to reduce the speed of the 25 mph collision by 9 mph. In NHTSA crash testing, the 2018 XT5 AWD received the highest five-star overall rating and the FWD version received a four-star overall rating. The Driver Awareness package (available on lower trims) also consists of IntelliBeam headlights, Forward Collision Alert, a flowing distance indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Front Pedestrian Detection. The Driver Assist package also includes automatic seat belt tightening, Automatic Park Assist (self-parking system), Front and Rear Automatic Braking, and adaptive cruise control with full-range speed capabilities.

What We Think

In a First Test review of the redesigned 2017 Cadillac XT5, we liked the improved handling thanks to the lighter and improved chassis. The XT5 provides a larger and more comfortable cabin than the outgoing SRX it replaced. We were also impressed with the long list of standard features. "Not only is the all-new 2017 Cadillac XT5 a worthy replacement for Cadillac's best-selling model, but the new SUV shouldn't have any issue competing in showrooms against rivals from Europe and Japan."

During 2017 SUV of the Year testing, we found the "sleepy transmission's gears too widely spaced. The lack of accelerative chutzpah feels out of place with the sharp steering and good handling balance on winding roads," we said. The great handling is accompanied by a great ride: "As for ride, the XT5 aced the crumbling-freeway test. Jason Cammisa described it as the best of any SUV in the test: 'Hands down. The surface ripples were just … gone. '"

Judges did not like the XT5's electronic shifter and the improved CUE infotainment system was still aggravating to use.

Cool Fact

In China, the XT5 comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine.
