A Note To Our Applicants and Supporters
Making sure temporarily homeless Airedale Terriers are immediately helped is always our priority. If you have completed an application and have not heard from us within a reasonable period of time, please contact us. Because of the volume of applicants and our limited volunteer resources, we have to rely on you check in with us periodically regarding the status of your application and the availability of a rescue Airedale Terrier. Please remember that for many reasons, we do not post all of the Airedales we are helping. It is important to for you to keep in contact with us to check on availability of a rescue Dale. Also, If you have it in your heart to offer some of your time to our worthy cause, please complete an application and note that you would like to help. Our ideal volunteer is one who has Airedale experience, training background is always wonderful, is home most of the time, and has secure fencing. Please be sure to put in an application so we have your contact information and know your interest in adopting. The safety and happiness of our Airedales in need is our highest priority. For that reason, we are very selective with our adoptive homes.
We look forward to hearing from you whether you are looking to adopt one of our wonderful Airedales, or would like to donate to NWATR. A donation can be made in honor of someone's birthday, to remember a special Airedale who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge (see our Remembrance Page), or in lieu of a traditional holiday gift. We will send a customized Airedale card acknowledging your donation as well as sending a tax donation receipt to you.

***PLEASE NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT ADOPT FROM PUPPYMILL FACILITIES. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. ONE OF THE MANY REASONS IS THE CRUEL AND INHUMANE TREATMENT OF THE AIREDALES THAT ARE KEPT FOR BREEDING PURPOSES ONLY. HEALTH AND TEMPERAMENT ISSUES AND LACK OF BREEDER SUPPORT DURING THE LIFETIME OF THE AIREDALE ARE OTHER REASONS TO NOT SUPPORT THOSE WHO BREED ONLY FOR MONEY.***
For Airedale rescue contacts in other regions of the country, please visit our national website at www.airedalerescue.net. To access rescue representatives for other breeds, please visit www.akc.org.
We hope that you will become part of the SWAT Family. Every adopter is part of rescue. Adopters take our dogs and finish their rescue by making them family members. We are proud of our many wonderful adopters without them, we could not continue our work. Updates from happy adopters about life with their companions makes all of the hard work worthwhile.

Airedales for Adoption
We know everyone wants to look at all the cute, fuzzy faces up for adoption, but if you are serious about adopting, please take a moment to read about the adoption process by clicking on "ADOPTION PROCESS" below and fill out an application.
Many wonderful Airedales are currently homeless. New Airedales come into Rescue every day. All Airedales currently in need of homes may not be pictured here.
We occasionally get requests from groups or individuals to help them advertise Airedales or mixed ‘Dales on a private basis. As a service, we provide space to help these parties find homes for their dogs. ATRA has not evaluated these dogs so we cannot tell you anything about them and assume no responsibility for their placement and adoptions. Select "Mixed Dales" using the "Pure Bred or Mixed" filter.
Foster Homes Needed
If you are available to foster short term, please let us know. We have no shelter while we wait for adoptive homes! Many times we have Airedales sitting in kennels until a foster home opens up. see FOSTER FOR ATRA.

Ready for Adoption
Known as the King of Terriers, the Airedale is the tallest terrier. Like many terriers, this breed counts the old English, or Black and Tan, Terrier as one of its primary progenitors. These medium-sized dogs were prized by Yorkshire hunters (and poachers) for hunting a variety of game from water rat to fox. The dogs could also find and retrieve birds. Around the mid s, some of these terriers around the River Aire in South Yorkshire were crossed with Otterhounds in order to improve their hunting ability around water, as well as their scenting ability. The result was a dog adept at otter hunting, originally called the Bingley or Waterside Terrier but recognized as the Airedale Terrier in Crosses to the Irish and Bull Terriers were made in order to reduce some of the remnants of the Otterhound cross that were now considered less than beautiful. By , the patriarch of the breed, Champion Master Briar, was gaining renown, and his offspring carried on his influence in America. The Airedale’s size and gameness continued to win worldwide fame. This dogs smart looks and manners won it a place as a police dog and family pet, both roles it still enjoys. After World War I, however, The Airedales popularity declined, and today this dogs reputation is greater than its numbers.
