Vizio TV Flashing Logo Fix

Flashing lights are globally seen as signs of danger. When it comes to technology, it’s no different. A flashing logo is usually a sign of something array and should not be ignored.

A Closer Look at Vizio TVs

The Vizio company is an American company that trades publicly. The company designs and sells televisions, soundbars, viewer data, and advertising. It is based in California, and it was founded in 2002. Vizio’s primary products are television sets. In fact, the company has been the largest LCD TV seller in the US since 2007. The company announced that it would focus on designing TVs with LED-backlit displays in 2009.

Vizio fans were delighted by the release of their first SmartCast TV in 2016. Since then, they have been improving on its technology, and in 2020 Vizio released its first OLED TV. It is clear that Vizio is unstoppable when it comes to technology, but nothing is flawless. So regardless of the model of Vizio TV you have, you might have seen a flashing logo at some point.

What does it mean when your Vizio TV flashes?

Your Vizio TV may flash at times. It can be the screen, logo, or power light that is flashing. Although there is usually a pretty logical reason, it can be challenging to pinpoint the cause of the flashing. Therefore, it is beneficial to look at all possible reasons why your Vizio TV might be flashing and the possible solutions. Your Vizio TV will have a flickering light if any of these elements are present:

  • The TV’s backlight has been damaged.
  • The video cable is loose or broken.
  • The signal strength is too poor.
  • The signal is not compatible with the settings on display.

In addition to this, your Vizio TV logo will flash to indicated corrupt firmware. It is also possible for the power light will blink, and it is an indication that an update is required or that the remote you are using isn’t compatible with the device.

These issues can all be fixed by following simple steps.

What to do if your Vizio TV keeps flickering

More often than not, a flashing Vizio TV is a sign of a backlight that is malfunctioning. It is possible to see whether your backlight is working. You can do this by shining a bright light onto your TV screen. You will be able to see the LCD crystals if your backlight is broken. The reason for this could be that the backlight has run its course, or it could be a malfunction in the hardware.

Regardless of which it is, you will require the help of a service technician. The service technician will open the back of the TV and either replace your backlight or fix the issue. If your Vizio TV is still under warranty, you might receive a new TV.

It could be possible for your Vizio TV to be flashing black. That would imply there is a different issue with it. Let’s examine the problems that come with a black flicker and the steps required to fix them.

What to do if your Vizio TV keeps blinking black

If your TV keeps flashing black, it is usually an indication that the display settings aren’t correct. It could also indicate that your display signal had been compromised. There are ways to fix these issues mentioned below.

Start by re-inserting all connections

This is the easiest method. Unplug all connections that run to the TV, and then after a minute or two, re-insert them. It will make it possible to see if one of the cables is causing the problem. Be sure to push the connections in all the way when you re-insert them.

Rule out malfunctioning cables and ports

The issue with your TV might simply be that your cable isn’t functioning correctly. If you have completed step one, and the problem still persists, you should try using your cable in a different port because the port could be damaged.

It is a good idea to change your HDMI cable to see if it is the original cable that is malfunctioning. It is worthwhile investing in HDMI 2.0 cables because they allow more information to pass to the TV.

Disable Advanced Video Settings

It isn’t uncommon to have issues with your TV’s Advanced Video Settings from time to time. Although they have been designed to improve your TV display, sometimes, they can inhibit the video if the signal is incompatible. You can check the video settings on your TV by accessing your menu and then selecting ‘advanced video.’

Try disabling all of the following settings:

  • Ambient Lighting
  • Backlight Control
  • Advanced Adaptive Luma

You can also disable the settings individually to isolate the cause. Then, once you have found the problem, you can enable the others.

Your cable’s signal isn’t sufficient.

A black flicker on your screen can also be because of a weak signal from your satellite TV. To ensure you are getting the best signal you can, align your satellite dish properly. After that, you should unplug your set-top box and wait a couple of minutes. You can then plug it back in again, and it will automatically do a hard reset.

What to do if your Vizio TV power light keeps blinking

A functioning Vizio TV power light is ordinarily solid, but there are several reasons why a Vizio TV power light might keep blinking, sometimes even after the TV has been switched off. Here are a few methods to try if your Vizio TV power light keeps blinking:

  1. Change the admin settings on your TV. Changing the admin settings could turn the power light on permanently. To change the admin settings, follow these steps:
  2. Go to the menu on your TV.
  3. Select “System.”
  4. Click on “Reset & Admin.”
  5. Click on “Power Indicator” and click on.

Using a different remote

Your Vizio TV light might be flashing if you are using a remote that isn’t your TV’s remote. This happens quite frequently with Xfinity remotes, for example. The flashing light might be indicating a bug in the firmware, but it isn’t a concern, as bugs are normally fixed when your TV updates to the newest firmware. Switching back to a Vizio remote should put an end to the blinking.

Updating your TV’s firmware

When new updates are available, your TV should update automatically. However, if a new update is available that your TV hasn’t downloaded, you can update the firmware manually. You can update the firmware manually by following these steps:

  1. Go to Menu
  2. Select “System”
  3. Click on” Check for Updates”

If there is an available update, you’ll need to confirm that you want to have it installed. It isn’t uncommon for your Vizio TV power light to blink if an app should be updated or failed an update. In this case, it is worth your while to update all available apps.

You can update all apps in three easy steps:

  1. Select the app you want to update, and highlight it.
  2. Find the yellow button on your Vizio remote and press it.
  3. If there is an update for the app. click on ‘Update’.

What to do if your Vizio TV Logo keeps flashing

Usually, when the firmware has been corrupted, or the TV is attempting to fix itself, the TV logo will flash. Although there is more than one reason for this, the most common reason is a power surge. In this case, the TV will not turn on, but the logo will continue to flash. To fix this problem, you’ll need to perform a hard reset. Let’s look at the steps you need to follow to successfully perform a hard reset on your Vizio TV.

How to perform a hard reset on your Vizio TV

Performing a hard reset on your TV will remove any internal memory, which includes minor malfunctions. Luckily, a hard reset won’t erase your settings remove any content that you have downloaded. You can do a hard reset of your TV by following these steps:

  1. Your TV and all devices that are connected to it should be turned off.
  2. Unplug the power from your Vizio TV.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Vizio TV for 30 seconds.
  4. The TV should remain unplugged for another 10 minutes.
  5. After 10 minutes, you can plug the TV back in and then turn it on.

The last resort: Resetting your TV back to factory settings

A factory reset should only be done when everything else has been done with no success. The reason for this is because a factory reset erases all preferences that you have saved and deletes all downloaded content. This is how you reset your TV back to factory settings:

  1. On your remote, press ‘Menu.’
  2. Find ‘System’ and click on ‘Reset & Admin.’
  3. Click on ‘Reset TV to Factory Defaults.’
  4. Proceed to enter your TV’s code, or if you aren’t sure what it is, you can enter the default code, ‘0000’.
  5. Click on ‘Reset.’

The TV will now reset itself back to factory settings. It will turn itself off and back on again.

Your Vizio TV is an incredible device that has been designed especially for your viewing pleasure. At times it may require a bit of extra work, but the steps are easy enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen that offers visual Vizio delight before you know it.

These issues can be fixed using the methods I have outlined in this article. You will also find a number of settings on your TV that may have been causing you issues with flickering or blinking lights.

Vizio TV Keeps Flashing/Flickering

Back of female head as she is waiting for TV to turn on

If your Vizio TV is flickering, it is most likely a malfunctioning backlight. You can test if the backlight is not working by shining a light on the screen. The LCD crystals will still produce their color, even if the backlight is broken, so the external light will make them visible again.

This will either be because the backlight has reached the end of its life, or because of a hardware malfunction. Either way, you will need a service technician to open the back of the TV to fix the problem or replace the hardware.

If this occurs under warranty, you may be issues with a new TV. However, if the screen is flickering black, it may be another issue which I will discuss below. If you are unsure, below are some general troubleshooting techniques that may fix your issue.

Hard Reset of the TV

A hard reset will clear any internal memory, including minor malfunctions, but it will not erase your settings or remove any downloaded content. You can do this with the following steps.

Step 1: Turn off your TV and all connected devices.

Step 2: Unplug the TV from the power.

Step 3: Press the power button on the TV for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Keep the TV unplugged for another 10 minutes.

Step 5: Plug the TV back in and turn it on.

Factory Reset

A factory reset will erase all saved preferences and delete any downloaded content on your TV. Therefore, you should only do this if you have tried everything else. Below are the steps involved in a factory reset.

Step 1: Press the ‘Menu’ button on the remote.

Step 2: Navigate to System > Reset & Admin.

Step 3: Select ‘Reset TV to Factory Defaults’.

Step 4: Enter your TV’s passcode, or the default code, ‘0000’.

Step 5: Select ‘Reset’ to confirm the factory reset.

Step 6: Wait for the TV to turn off and back on again.

Vizio TV Keeps Blinking Black

A black flickering screen usually indicates that the display settings are wrong or that the display signal is compromised. Below are ways you can fix these issues.

Re-Insert All Connections

The easiest way you could fix this is by unplugging all connections to the TV and re-inserting them. One of the cables may be loose, causing the video signal to cut in and out. Make sure you are pushing the connections all the way into the sockets.

Check the Cable and Port

It may also be that your cable is not working properly. Firstly, you should try the cable in a different port. That particular port may be malfunctioning.

If you are using a HDMI cable, try a different one to see if your original cable was faulty. You should make sure that you are using at least HDMI 2.0 as this will allow more information to pass through to the TV. Sometimes the screen is flickering because the TV is replacing the lost information with a blank screen.

Disable Advanced Video Settings

Many people have had issues with the TV’s Advanced Video Settings. These are designed to improve your TV display, but sometimes they can inhibit the video if the signal is not compatible. You can find these using the pathway below.

Menu > Advanced Video

Try disabling all of the following settings. If you prefer, you can try to isolate if one of these settings is causing the problem so that you can keep the others enabled.

· Ambient Lighting

· Backlight Control

· Advanced Adaptive Luma

Poor Cable Signal

A poor signal from your satellite TV will also cause a black flicker on your screen. You should align your satellite dish to ensure you are receiving the strongest signal possible. Then you can unplug your set-top box, wait a few minutes and then plug it back in to perform a hard reset.

Vizio TV Power Light Blinking

Female turning TV on with remote

The Vizio TV power light is normally solid. However, some people have found that it will start blinking and sometimes even keep blinking after the TV has been turned off. This can be due to a number of reasons, outlined below.

One reported fix has been to change the admin settings to turn the power indicator on permanently. You can try this by following the pathway below.

Menu > System > Reset & Admin > Power Indicator > On

If this does not solve your issue, you can try the following methods.

Using the Vizio Remote

If you are using a remote other than the Vizio remote, such as an Xfinity remote, this will cause the light to flash. This is likely a bug in the firmware that may be in the process of being fixed.

Bugs are usually fixed in the latest firmware update on your TV. If you are unsure if your firmware is up to date, you can check this manually, which I will detail below. In the meantime, using the Vizio remote should stop the light from blinking.

Update the Firmware on Your TV

You TV should automatically update its firmware when a new update is available. If you are aware of a new update but the TV has not downloaded it, you can update the firmware manually using the method below.

Menu > System > Check for Updates

If an update is available, you will be prompted to confirm that you want to install it. Keep in mind that some companies release their updates over a period of one or two weeks, so the update may not be available in your region yet.

Some people have found that the power light will also blink if an app needs to update, or was attempting to update. If this is the issue, you should ensure all apps on the TV are up to date as well. You can update apps using the steps below.

Step 1: Highlight the app you want to update.

Step 2: Press the yellow button on your Vizio remote.

Step3: If an update is available, select ‘Update’.

Vizio TV Logo Keeps Flashing

White male and female sitting in front of TV

The logo at the bottom of the TV usually flashes when the firmware is corrupt and the TV is trying to fix itself. This could be for a number of reasons, but a common cause is a power surge.

You will notice that the TV no longer turns on, but the logo will flash continually. This can be fixed by following the steps below.

Step 1: Perform a hard reset (detailed above).

Step 2: Turn the TV on. The logo may flash again.

Step 3: Wait for the flashing to stop, after about two minutes. The logo should turn orange.

Step 4: Turn the TV on again.

The reset should allow the TV to discharge any unnecessary internal memory, including corrupt data. It will then need the time to reboot its operating system, which is why the logo will still flash for a few minutes after you have performed the hard reset.
