Calvary Church is here for you. We focus on the Bible, worshiping our God, and building community so that discipleship can occur.  These elements form the foundation our church is built on.  Out of these comes our purpose, vision and mission.  Our purpose is to declare the supremacy of God for the joy of earth’s inhabitants.  Our vision is to see joyful believers growing more passionate in their love for God and people.  Our mission is to make joyful disciples of Jesus Christ.

We pursue these through Biblical preaching, small groups, edifying studies, special seminars, serving, etc. We want people to grow in their faith by engaging in any one of our many ministry and serving opportunities.

It is our prayer that you will be blessed and strengthened by the power of Jesus Christ, and that you will live a life of abundance in joy, fellowship, and liberty.

Tyson Fury: God ‘Raised Me to My Feet’ in Heavyweight Boxing Match

By Movieguide® Staff

Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury praised God for his recent title victory against Deontay Wilder.

“I would like to say thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus on this fight tonight again,” Fury said in a post-game interview.

The match went 11 rounds, and there was a point in which Fury thought he was down for the count.

“I was hurt. Wilder’s a strong puncher and he’s a tough man,” he added. “I was hitting him with some big shots. My Lord and Savior raised me to my feet tonight to give Him the glory.”

Fury also said he would pray for his opponent after the fight.

“Deontay Wilder’s a top fighter. He gave me a real run for my money. I always said I’m the best in the world and he’s second best,” Fury said. “He’s got no love for me because you know why. Because I’ve beat him three times. And he is like, ‘I’m a sportsman.’ I went over to him to show some love and respect, and he didn’t want to give it back. So that’s his problem. I’ll pray for him so God will soften his heart.”

After the match, Fury wore a hat that said, “Jesus: El Rey Viene,” a Spanish phrase that means “Jesus, the King is coming.”

Fury is not the only fighter to profess faith in Jesus Christ.

UFC Champion Rose Namajunas previously gave glory to God for becoming the strawweight champion.

As Movieguide® reported:

“I did it again, but God did it,” Namajunas told Joe Rogan in the post-match interview. “I really just had to have faith in Him, but that’s what got me through.” …

Namajunas also invites her fans into her faith. In Dec. 2020, Namajunas made a live stream on YouTube, giving people the opportunity to pray.

“The power of prayer guys. No matter what’s going on right now. . . there’s lots of craziness, God is in the center of all that and that’s where peace is found. If you can find that center, that peace in the midst of all this – that’s the whole goal,” Namajunas said.

To God Be the Glory

Text:

This text by Fanny Crosby was first published in William H. Doane’s collection, Songs of Devotion, in 1870. Most hymnals contain the original three verses and chorus, though the Presbyterian Hymnal doesn’t include the original second verse, and Rejoice in the Lord doesn’t include the refrain. Some hymnals add the chorus as an extension of each verse. The words and phrasing are slightly different in each hymnal. Be sure to note the last line of the third stanza, in which Crosby, blind from birth, writes, “But purer, and higher, and greater will be my wonder, my transport, when Jesus we see.”

Tune:

The tune TO GOD BE THE GLORY was written by William Doane, first appearing in Doane’s Songs of Devotion in 1870. This tune is almost exclusively used with this hymn. Be sure to sing this tune at a lively and joyful tempo. Because the chorus feels like an extension of each verse, it isn’t necessary to change the dynamics between the two. However, it could be quite powerful to end with an a cappella chorus at the very end.

When/Why/How:

This hymn could be sung during any time of praise, such as the opening hymns, a response of gratitude to either the assurance or the sermon, or a closing hymn. There are a vast number of songs it could be paired with, such as “Glorious and Mighty,” “He is Exalted,” “Holy, Holy, Holy,” or “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty.” As an introduction to the song, and a connection between the words we speak and words we sing, you could read the Westminster Shorter Catechism Q & A 1: “What is the chief end of man? To glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.”

A Message For My Queens!

00:00:00 - 00:02:04

Welcome to welcome back my team onQueens. This is Sir Girl Sinica ill for those who are tuning in for the firsttime. So I'm going to start off by sayingthat this podcast may not be what a lot of us want to hear. But it is the hardcore truth and it's mostly concerning my women, my Queens, my sisters outthere. Now this is not a podcast to to be mean or judgmental or anything likethat, but it is so important that be learning understand this concept inorder to truly heal from the things that we need to heal from right. So Irecently posted a video on my youtube channel of called or come to God withan one part for those who have not checked out the ministry gloriorministries on Youtube. I will have to suggest that shall go over and watchthose videos and subscribe to the channel, because I do a lower videosevery day or early every day, and sometimes I may not put those videos onthe podcast, so I wil howly suggest to Trogle over to youtube and look up glore to glory ministries andmake sure that you're all subscribe to the Youtube Channel and hit that bell.So that way you can get notifications when I do upload in a video. So I'm really just going to expound onthat because God really loves an humble heart. Okay and then it's so importantthat we, especially as women, take accountability and responsibility right, and this is not to say that men don't do it, because it is a lot of men outthere who don't take account ability of responsibility. But I notice that it ismore prevalent in as women than men when it comes to taking accountabilityand responsibility.

00:02:05 - 00:04:01

So what do I mean by count of built andresponsibility where it is so easy to blame other people right, especially ifwe ended up in a wrong relationship or if we end up hurting our past or if weend up with the a trauma, etc, etc? Is So easy to blame? The other person right, let's just use, is, as an example say, for instance, as a woman, youpeseta assault it as a child, and you never heal from that right. You neverforgave that person right and because of this every time you get into a relationship. It's like you took it out on that partner right. That broken is that thattrauma goes into that relationship right, so you ended up mistreating yourpartner, but it's so easy to say all well it's because that happens to me inmy childhood that this is why I am the way I am, and this is not too disregarded, because of course, any kind of abuse is just evil on so many levels right, butat the end of the day we are responsible, and it is our responsibility to not only choose how to respond tocertain things, but also it is in our power to choose to forgive a thingright. It is in our power to choose to not to let that charmer orthat abuse define us right in the lone way and not at myself had found myselfdoing this all I used to always say well. This happened to me and this iswhy I'm the way I am right, but there is actually no growth in doing thatright. One thing I have learned is that if wetend to take the responsibility off ofourselves and place it on another thing...

00:04:01 - 00:06:00

...or pass it on another person, we tendto make the same mistakes glory to God. That's my self reflection is soimportant. That's why I come in to God, with the Umber Heart is Solebat. It isso important to allow ourselves to heal right. Isn't it's so important to allowourselves to truly come into reality on the things that we do like? I remember if I luain myself, and I would blameeverybody that I came into concept, we all got in to evolve with therelationship and I will blame them because they broke my heart right, but then it self reflected. I realized that it was really my fault.Yes, true, that person had the choice whether or not they wanted to treat meright or not, but at the end of the day I setmy own self up to be heartbroken. What do I mean by that? I realized that I had a very toxic trait. My toxic trait was that I would imaginethese individuals to be a certain way and who they were in. My head was farfrom who they really was. In other words, their reality was not theirpotential that I imagined in my head, and so what I would do I would go intothe relationship and when they did not fit the narrative of that potentialthat I imagine in my head, I would try to change them. Try to mold them quoteunquote if you will and to the person that I imagined in myhead and when they did not do that, if when they did not becomethe person that I wanted them to be, because that wasn't who they reallywere right. I put myself in a position...

00:06:00 - 00:08:02

...to not only be heart broken, but it created so many different wounds like I don't care who you are, who youinvolved yourself, but people can feel when they're being manipulated. Okay-and I realized that I was being very manipulative in in all these differentrelationships. I'm saying all I just say when you really set effect onyourself and when you really come to terms that ad, I have made someHarie mistakes. I had a certain Patternes at a center when you're able to recognize thesethings and realize that that certain thing was actually the very thing that caused a lot ofpain. That will change your whole perspectiveand you will stop making those mistakes glory, the God another taxi trade I had was out thereto say boundaries, but at the being hurt so many times, and when I had tocome to that realization that I was not setting boundaries, and that wasanother set up for me to get her guess what I learned to set boundaries. Iknow it's so hard, my queens to take accountability and responsibility, butit is so imperative it is so imperative, because if not, you would continue in life making thesame mistake getting the same result me and my cousin, every sparkman wasjust speaking about this matter the other day. If we want somethingdifferent, we have to try something different and if we never try to takeaccountability and responsibility. Well, maybe it's time that we do so if we keep attracting the same type ofpeople that we have to look with them ourselves to find out, why are weattracting the same type of individual?...

00:08:04 - 00:10:00

It is so important is not everything isthe other person's fault? Not Everything is the other person'sfault. And yes, it is true that we may have been through things that was notout of our control, like that. I just mentioned about being sexual assaltedas a child of me, of course, if your child, that adults or that person thatwas older than you have much much more strength, an you of course right. So itwould have been hard to fit that, but at the end of the day it is a choice to either hold on to it or to let it go and not let that abuse or their traumato find you see it's so easy to use those things as a clutch as an excuseto do the things that we do right. I remember, after losing my little brother Yah I had. I had losta fifteen year old little brother eleven years ago, and because of that Iwas very overprotected of my child for a very long time, and I remember havinga discussion with my cousin. He was like. I understand that that happenedto you with your brother. He said, but that is not good to bethat protective of R him and I knew he was right and I was say what is becausethat happened to out and that's why I'm like that. That is really just an excuse for usnot to change, but change is necessary to grow. I'm Na say that again, changeis necessary to grow. If we, if we, if it seemed like that we're stagnant, then that means that it's a certain area in our life that needs to bechanged. But in order for us to change, we have to recognize that it is a need for the change and wehave to actually want to change it. It's so many of us you...

...and I'm going to be very honest. Theylove to be the victim. Okay. I know I'm probably going to get attacked for that, but the truth is the truth. I myself was like that at one point: love beinga victim love using things such as losing a love one to justify what I wasdoing and why I was doing it. Have you ever come across the person say: Well, that's just high him, but yet they're miserable. You know, like I stated in that video. A lot of the things that we putourselves in is merely our fault. It's our fault. Will we be honest with ourselves, because we so quick to lie to ourself, it's so easy to lot to ourself right. But if we lie to ourselves it would beso easy to lotto everybody else. Honesty, honesty begins, but in itbegins with us right being honest with USSEL is so hardbecause it allows you to look at yourself for who you really are, butonce you look at yourself or who you really are, and you don't like what you see then isgoing to put you in a position to where you will want to change the certainthing about yourself and once you change the certain thingabout yourself that all of a sudden in your life would begin to get so muchbetter. Lord, be the God. I know this podcast episode is not likethe other ones, but, like I stated in that video, it'snot going to be always peaches and cream that this ministry is going to befocusing on truth right...

...on God's to God hates pride when werefuse to come when we profuse to have accountability and responsibility, thatis a form of pride God hates pot he loads it. I would really are that video was sopowerful. I would really really how to suggest that you go over to you to andcheck out that recent video, the latest video that I had just uploaded man, because when I confess my sister, the most like God, I felt so free all. There is freedom and a lot of people included myself atone point did not understand how freeing it is to actually be honestwith yourself and actually confess your mistakes and your and your not weaknesses, but your shortcomings. That is a betterwork for your shortcomings. It is so freeing and that it opens upthe door to heal glory to God. A LOT OF US won't heal in so big, butnow realizing that it starts with that it starts for being honest with thyself. It starts for self reflection, it starts about taking responsibility andaccountability. Gor Be the guard, God loves an UMBEESAM. We have to learn to to take accountability. Not Everything is everybody knows thisfault. Sometimes it is their fault, but...

00:14:02 - 00:16:00

...we have choices on our own as well, and it's time to take our power back y'all. It really is let go of the old trauma. Look at yourself look in the mirror, look at yourself in a mirror and really just evaluate yourself. You find your way. Yes, you'll find it once you start doing it. It's really, and I know this is goingto sound so crazy. It is really addictive to you will, because youconstantly won't want to work on yourself right, especially if you'restriving for different. Why you want to consistently and constantly want towork on you so glory to God. I'm hoping- and I know, yeah probably not liking me right now, but I love my queens. I love my kingsout there too, but my queen a we have to. We have to take more responsibility in accountability. I used to be the type to be veryrevengeful right, a person that heard me on. I hurt you back and I had to realize like. I don't wantto be like that anymore. When I had to come to that reality by myself, I was.I don't want to be like that anymore. Ye. There is a passive freedom when youkill me stuff, evaluate and want to change the think, sorry things aboutyourself...

R.C. Sproul: The Glory of God

Soli Deo gloria

Latin sentence from the Vulgate bible

For other uses, see Soli Deo gloria (disambiguation).

"Soli Deo Gloria" inscripted in Norwegian cast-iron stove from the 19th century

Soli Deo gloria is a Latin term for Glory to God alone. It has been used by artists like Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Christoph Graupner to signify that the work was produced for the sake of praising God. The phrase has become one of the five solae propounded to summarise the Reformers' basic beliefs during the Protestant Reformation.

As a greeting, it was used by monks in cistercian and trappist monastic orders in written communication.[1]

As a doctrine, it means that everything is done for God's glory to the exclusion of mankind's self-glorification and pride. Christians are to be motivated and inspired by God's glory and not their own.

Meaning and related terms[edit]

The three words Soli Deo gloria (abbreviated S. D. G.) have meaning in Latin as follows: soli is the (irregular) dative singular of the adjective "lone", "sole", and agrees with the dative singular Deo, (in the nominative dictionary form Deus), meaning "to God"; and gloria is the nominative case of "glory", "gloria".

Soli Deo gloria is usually translated glory to God alone,[2][3] but some translate it glory to the only God.[4] A similar phrase is found in the Vulgate translation of the Bible: "soli Deo honor et gloria".[5] This is grammatically the same as the signature of Bach and Handel, but using the dative "to the only God" then two nominative subjects "honour and glory." The verse reads differently in Greek and English because of the additional adjective "wise": ἀφθαρτῷ, ἀορατῷ, μόνῳ, σοφῷ Θεῷ, aphthartôi, aoratôi, mónōi, sophôi Theôi—"to the immortal, invisible, unique, wise God."

Musical and literary usage[edit]

"S. D. G." (for Soli Deo Gloria) at the end of a G. F. Handelmanuscript

The Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach wrote the initials "S. D. G." at the end of all his church compositions and also applied it to some, but not all, his secular works.[2] This dedication was at times also used by Bach's contemporary George Frideric Handel, e.g. in his Te Deum.[6] The 16th century Spanish mystic and poet St. John of the Cross used the similar phrase, Soli Deo honor et gloria, in his Precautions and Counsels.[7]

In tribute to Bach, the term was also chosen by Sir John Eliot Gardiner as the name for his own record label after leaving Archiv Produktion, to continue and complete his Bach cantatas project.

Aaron Shust's 2009 song "To God Alone (be the Glory)" was inspired by Bach's writing "S.D.G." at the bottom of his musical scores.[8]

Protestant usage in the Five Solae[edit]

Together with sola fide, sola gratia, sola scriptura and solus Christus, the phrase has become part of what is known as the Five Solae, a summary statement of central tenets of the Protestant Reformation.[9] Although these individual phrases have been used for centuries, it is not clear when they were first put together.

Other denominational views[edit]

In Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic theology, the term latria is used for the form of adoration and glorification directed only to the Holy Trinity.[10] The term dulia is used for saints in general and hyperdulia (below latria, above dulia) for the Virgin Mary.[11] The definition of the three level hierarchy of latria, hyperdulia and dulia goes back to the Second Council of Nicaea in 787.[12]
