oh noooo not soundcloud whyyyyy

I’ve given this a 4 star rating considering the amount of fun this app has given me throughout the years I’ve owned it. I’ve always enjoyed mixing EDM music and making sets like I was playing a festival. Not to brag but I got super good at it and would dedicate hours to finding the best cues to mix every song together.

Anyways I took a break and came back just today to see that the option to play Soundcloud audio is now exclusive to its paying members. That was where all of my hundreds of songs were stored but now they are all locked since I am not a Soundcloud Go member or whatever it is. Anyways it is probably out of the developers hands and a decision from the people of Soundlcoud, but I’m just super sad to see that my years of making cues and creating sets has been destroyed. Great app though 😓😭. If it is not out of their hands I would love to see an option to play those Soundcloud tracks sometime in the future, but for now I guess I quit cause I don’t wanna make a trash can sounding MP3 audio for every song I want to mix.

Hi,
We're deeply sorry for the inconvenience but Soundcloud policy has changed.
You now have to get an active Soundcloud Go+ subscription to use it in edjing Mix.
Thank you for your comprehension. Alice

It's an ok app...for the basics

It features all sorts of ways to load up music, but all of the music sources are copyrighted!! I can't even record my own previously created SoundCloud tracks because of it. Most of the app itself is locked and costs about $10 to unlock all of the stuff you would actually want on a real controller. I like the base effects and the ability to preview certain effects but maybe if you're gonna charge the users for all of the additional crap, you should at least use maybe 10% of that more, on the app itself. It's not even all of my music. I have X amount of Eminem songs and I can only use one. How does that make sense. Why would you only restrict one song from an entire album, let alone an A-Class rapper/artist. Sure the mixing mechanic is pretty good for an iOS app but gimme a break. I have to either play live, or nobody can even hear what I'm playing, if I can even play it. Then instead of it being an easy sharing process, you either lose the recording all together and have a fake link that doesn't work so you end up deleting a whole 20m mix. There's no "save to recordings" button or something simple. Then if I do save it with cover art, I go to share it and the cover art doesnt even come up. Idk what the point in that is either.

Nope just another greed strategy

This game is cool and all but I don’t know about y’all but you can’t even get into the game without paying for it. I got on and I was super excited then I saw the purchase and I was bummed out. I instantly deleted the game as soon as I could.

It just wasn’t a game for me. I have always wanted a game like this but I guess I can’t get it. Please don’t be as greedy for the money next time you should probably just stick with in app purchases. And plus you should not be as greedy next time because there are people out there that love this kind of stuff but they might not have the money for it. So it seems to me that y’all have made a game for people who put money in to games all of the time and it is no big deal.

So please next time think about everyone out there and not just people who put money in to games no problem. Maybe think about if you wanted this game and then you had to pay to play it but no one would let you get it. How would that make you feel??? So now will you not be as greedy for money next time because I sure hope so. You realize you made a game then put it on the App Store and everyone in the world goes on the App Store so everyone should be able to play it right???? Please don’t be so greedy next time and think about the others!!

5 best DJ apps for Android to drop those beats

Being a DJ can be expensive. You have a load of equipment to buy and then you have to invest the time to learn it, use the software, and create awesome music. Believe it or not, there are some decent DJ apps on Android. There aren’t any currently that can run the whole show but you can use these to augment a set up, try out some stuff, and do some fun stuff on the side at least. Let’s take a look at the best DJ apps for Android. There are some decent up-and-coming DJ apps such as Samply Music Sampler as well. It’s always good to check the Play Store to see the new stuff. This isn’t the most active genre in app development so we don’t anticipate a ton of new DJ apps to come out every year.

The best DJ apps for Android

Cross DJ

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Cross DJ claims to be one of the first DJ apps on mobile. It has a decent set of features. It includes fairly accurate BPM detection, track syncing, and beat-grid editing. The app also includes five levels of pitch bending (4, 8, 16, 32, 100%). It also comes with a range of features that you can purchase through in-app purchases. That includes an auto-mixer, external mixer support, and sample packs. Picking up an in-app purchase also removes ads and gives you access to more features. It’s not cheap, but it’s otherwise solid.

DJ Studio 5

Price: Free with in-app purchases

DJ Studio 5 is one of the most comprehensive DJ apps out there. It has one of the best free offerings out there as well. The developers boast that the main app is completely free with no limitations or watermarks. That includes eight sound effects, ten sample pads, the ability to record mixes live, equalizers, and more. All of the features are free to use. However, you can purchase some additional stuff to round out the experience. There is also support for SoundCloud and even some hardware controllers.

Get it on Google Play

djay for Android

Price: Free / $6.99

djay for Android is one of the most popular DJ apps on the platform. It recently underwent a massive overhaul and kind of solidified its offerings into a single app. The app has a bunch of decent options, including SoundCloud and TIDAL support, a sequencer to create beats, a looper, pre-cueing, and support for several Pioneer and Reloop DJ controllers. Unfortunately, it lost Spotify access because Spotify turned it off, but the inclusion of TIDAL and SoundCloud should help ease the difficulty. The Android version is a flat rate as opposed to the subscription rate on iOS. However, the huge new update also came with some bugs that a lot of people have complained about. Tread carefully.

edjing Mix

Price: Free / $5.49 / in-app purchases

edjing Mix is another one of the more powerful DJ apps. It has a whole bunch of features. Some of the highlights include Deezer support, support for your local library, 16 samples to play with, continuous syncing between two tracks, and looping. There are also turn-tables, SoundCloud access, a crossfader, and you can upload your mixes to the cloud from the app. You can even customize the layout a little bit. There three apps total in the collection. One of them is free or you can buy it for $5.49. The other one is free with additional things that you can purchase as in-app purchases.

Get it on Google Play

Music Maker JAM

Price: Free / Up to $49.99

Music Maker JAM is one of the most popular DJ apps for mobile, if not the most popular. It checks all of the boxes for the basics. You can create your own beats, record vocals, add real-time effects, and there are a ton of sound packs to choose from. You get a fair amount of it for free. However, like many mobile music production apps, it does get fairly expensive rather quickly. This one is also good for general musicians looking for an app to record original compositions as well.

Ratings and Reviews

ACTUALLY GREAT!!

I didn’t expect anything out of this but the concepts of crowd reading, beatmatching, networking, etc. we’re expressed through this game in clever ways. My only criticism is that it’s hard to read the dialogue sometimes with the notch but this in no way disrupts the game and I’ll take it compared to all the amazing things that I love about this. If you’re a dj in real life, you’ll actually really enjoy this. The music feels edm but not in a soul-less way. It’s a good balance of mainstream but not sellout sounding. It appeals to critics AND casual fans which isn’t easy to do by any means. I didn’t expect this to be so great. 5,000 stars brother!

Hope it never ends!

Genuinely a fun game. A lot of Guitar Hero comparisons, but better.
Reading the crowd is a big part of pleasing an event and I love how easily it’s represented in each party.
The ability to calibrate audio is a nice touch to compensate for the delay if you’re rocking Bluetooth. Even the ads, as much as I hate ads, are rewarding in a very high degree in this game.
There’s so much more to go and I hope that the next update certainly includes more newer tracks (I don’t understand why more artists are not jumping on this opportunity).
I think the timer should be changed to match the set length accordingly. Sometimes you only play half of your set collection, other times you play each record at least twice.
Also, I know it’s a lot along the lines of Guitar Hero, but a “special” should be accumulated through consistent note playing that can allow the player to trigger smoke/lasers/projectors/fire?, to hype the crowd when possible.
Keep it up Youth Control! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Best free game on the market, no complaints

This app excels in everything you would expect it too. First off, the ads are never up in front of your face, and you can easily play the game without watching any of them. This game also has a great campaign as well as multiplayer mode with challenges every day and week where you can earn rewards. It is fun and interesting to play, and makes you want to keep playing because of the different records to collect. This game can be both easy and hard, with very fair and unique gameplay. I honestly cannot wait to see how far this game can go

Now discussing:

Seven of the best DJ apps for Android, iPhone and iPad

Hey boys. Hey girls. Superstar DJs? Here we go – on a touchscreen, rather than a set of physical decks.

DJ apps can be a touchy subject in dance circles, but they shouldn’t be. Rather than posing a threat to the traditional, physical craft of professional DJing, they’re more aimed at interested amateurs.

People who want to experiment with putting their own mixes together, and perhaps to soundtrack the odd house party or wedding reception. Pro DJs can get some use out of them, but their core audience is the rest of us.

Here are seven worth trying. Prices are correct at the time of writing, with “IAP” indicating the use of in-app purchases.

Pacemaker
iOS (Free + IAP)

With its cheerfully neon visuals and simple controls, Pacemaker is the most accessible app for budding DJs. You can pull in tracks from your iTunes collection as well as streaming service Spotify (if you’re a subscriber), then mix them easily with the help of the built-in sync feature. Extra effects, from loop and reverb to “ChopChop” and “8-bit” can be bought as in-app purchases. If you’re feeling lazy (or want to dance) the app will also choose suitable tracks and mix them for you, too.

djay 2
Android / iOS (£2.99 - £3.99 + IAP)

Developer Algoriddim is one of the longest-established companies making DJing apps, and it shows in the latest version of its flagship software. djay 2 models itself on a physical set of decks, and like Pacemaker it works with your local collection as well as with Spotify Premium. In the former case, you can also record your mixes for later listening and sharing. djay 2 is a good bridge between people who are just getting started with DJing, and those who want to play with more powerful features and audio effects – some of which are sold as in-app purchases.

Serato Pyro
iOS (Free)

Serato’s reputation in DJ circles comes from its pro software, but its Pyro app is aimed much more at music fans. It’s another app that can pull songs from your iTunes and Spotify Premium collections, and once you’ve chosen a few for your mix, the app will suggest others that it thinks will fit nicely. Pyro handles the mixing for you, and will re-sort your playlist for smoother segues if you ask it to. It’s an accessible way to prepare mixes for parties or events.

edjing 5
Android / iOS (Free + IAP)

Another well-established DJ app alongside the djay series, and this too has been through several versions to reach its current, slick incarnation. Edjing has some different sources too: besides the songs downloaded to your device, it can access music from streaming services SoundCloud and Deezer. Mixing is simple, with tools to help novices, and like rivals you can buy various effects and tools as in-app purchases. There’s also a useful recording feature. More experienced DJs may wish to try the separate Edjing Pro app.

djay Pro
iOS (£14.99 + IAP)

Worth its own entry in this roundup, not least because djay Pro has just won an Apple Design Award, showing that Cupertino’s app bosses hold it in high esteem. That’s because it’s been heavily optimised for the latest iPads, including the iPad Pro, with all manner of shortcuts for owners of the big-sized tablet. Like the consumer version of djay, it supports iTunes and Spotify Premium for music, but the emphasis here is on pro features, from recording and sample packs to its video features.

Cross DJ
Android / iOS (Free + IAP)

This app’s creator, Mixvibes, is another veteran of the digital DJing scene, with its app a good free option even if you don’t want to spend money on the effects sold as in-app purchases. It can draw from your local music collection as well as SoundCloud, with a good range of mixing controls, plus an automatic option if you want to take a break. That’s another in-app purchase, as is the ability to record and share non-SoundCloud mixes – these features are £0.79 each – so you can build Cross DJ into a tool that suits your needs with relatively little cost, or buy the separate Cross DJ Pro version instead.

Traktor DJ
iOS (£7.99 + IAP)

Finally, this is another app for more experienced DJs, from one of the most well-known companies – Native Instruments – in the DJing world. Traktor DJ ditches the idea of virtual decks in favour of getting you hands-on with songs’ waveforms via some inventive multi-gesture controls. It works with your iTunes library, with as much or as little help mixing as you need. It also plays nicely with other music apps on your device, and can work with Traktor’s DJing hardware. A separate iPhone version is available.
